I am a labor economist in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta. My research guides public policy by estimating the effects of interventions in labor markets. I am interested in policies that might increase female labor force participation and reduce gender wage gaps, but have a general interest in any policy that improves labor market outcomes for any disadvantaged group.
I also study the effect of labor market institutions on economic efficiency, especially in China. A third research stream investigates the economic assimilation of immigrants in the U.S. and in Canada. I am also interested in human capital accumulation and its dynamics with other labor market outcomes.
