Joseph Marchand

Joseph Marchand is a Professor in the Department of Economics, the Principal Investigator of a Future Energy Systems grant examining what the future of energy means for labor markets, and the Chair of the Minimum Wage Expert Panel assessing impacts of the province’s $15 minimum wage for the Government of Alberta.

 

Joseph primarily conducts research and teaches within his field of labor economics, analyzing how local labor demand shocks, such as energy booms and busts, can generate responses in the labor market and in distributional, educational, and health outcomes. He also publishes research in the economics of aging.

 

Professor Marchand is currently writing the Canadian edition of a textbook in labor economics and continues to serve as editor of his department’s working paper series and weekly New Economics Papers reports for labour economics and labor markets. He has recently returned from a visit to the Grantham Institute of the London School of Economics.
